Spring Sports Update

-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports:               Good Morning Palmyra!  PHS Spring Athletics had quite the week!  Here is a look at how everyone performed:

The Boys & Girls Track & Field Teams competed at the prestigious Woodbury Relays on Saturday.  The Boys team finished in 4th place overall.

  • Boys Shuttle Hurdle Relay finished in 1st Place and received gold watches: Kwinten Ives, Joe Russell, Abdul Iyiola, and John Latimore were the hurdlers.
  • Boys SMR finished in 3rd Place:  Kwinten Ives, Bobby Woll, Abdul Iyiola, & Colin Broadbelt were the runners.
  • Boys Long Jump 1st Place: Kwinten Ives
  • Girls 4x800 Finished in the Top Ten:  Sarah Agnew, Clara Cannuli, Kiley Hines, & Anna Paszkiewicz
  • Girls 4x100 Finished in the Top Ten:  Caitlin Hartman, Maura Russell, Natasha McGowan, & Keronja Watson

The Palmyra Boys Tennis Team had a 2-1 week.  The boys participated in the Burlington County Open Tournament on Tuesday where Richie Butler (2nd singles) Austin Forrester (3rd singles) Jaykob Ott and Owen Jacobs (2nd doubles) all won their first round matchups before losing in the second round.  

The boys then defeated Clayton High School on Wednesday, 5-0.  John Liebe (6-1, 6-2), Richie Butler (6-0, 6-0) and Austin Forrester (6-0, 6-0) each won their singles matches.  Julian Carlino/Connor McCann (6-0, 6-0) and Owen Jacobs/Jaykob Ott (6-0, 6-0) each won their doubles matches. 

The boys followed that win with a huge win over rivals Cinnaminson High School on Thursday, 4-1.  Richie Butler (6-2, 6-7, 10-3) and Austin Forrester (6-1, 6-3) won their singles matches.  Julian Carlino/Connor McCann (6-3, 6-1) and Owen Jacobs/Jaykob Ott (6-2, 6-2) each won their doubles matches.  The boys tennis team is now 4-2 on the season and will travel to Burlington Township today for their next match.

 

The Baseball Team had a perfect 3-0 week.  The boys started the week with a 5-2 win over Holy Cross on Monday.  Joe Elmes had 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s while Chap-Sa Lim had 1 hit and 2 RBI’s.  Mike Coletti and Steven Peltz each had 2 hits.  Joe Elmes was the winning pitcher, striking out 6 batters. 

The boys then destroyed BCIT Westampton on Wednesday, 19-4.  Joe Elmes led the way offensively with 3 hits.  Chap-Sa Lim and Brayden Minnix each had 2 hits for the Panthers.  Anthony Morgenstern got the win on the mound for the Panthers. 

The boys finished off their perfect week with a 6-4 win over rival Riverside High School on Thursday.  Steven Peltz and Lucas Moritz had the hot bats for the team with 3 hits each.  The baseball team is now 3-3 on the season and will host Pemberton High School at home today at 3:45 at Charles Street.

 

The Softball Team won their 1st game of the season defeating STEM Civics 25-1 on Thursday. Eve Fencl was the winning pitcher only giving up 1 hit and striking out 7 as well as going 2 for 4 with a double, 3 runs scored and 5 RBI. Aubrey Wagner was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored a double and an RBI.  Jasmine Martinez was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored, 2 doubles and 4 RBI. Fiona Hennigan was 2 for 3 with 3 runs and a walk.  Jisselle Martinez (3 runs a double and 2 RBI) McKenzie May (3 RBI and 2 walks) Paige Barben (1 run and 1 RBI) Charlotte Reis (2 runs and 1 RBI) Grace Stavely (1 run) Gabby Gray (1 RBI) each had 1 hit. Emily Gerbe scored 3 runs.  Elsie Kenson and Jane Ancker each scored 1 run. 

The girls followed their 1st win with another win over Willingboro High School on Friday, 18-1.  Mckenzie May and Emily Gerbe each had 2 hits to lead the offense.  Keyanna Watson had 4 RBI’s while Eve Fencl and Aubrey Wagner each had 3 RBI’s.  Eve Fencl picked up the win by striking out 11 Chimeras on the day.  The girls are now 2-7 on the season and will host Pennsauken High School today at Legion Field at 3:45 for their next game.

 

Our Panther Golfer, Doug Aird competed at the Burlington County Golf Open on Monday, shooting a 115 at Ramblewood Country Club.
