-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports: Good Day to Everyone! Here is a look at how our student-athletes competed last week as the winter season hits the home stretch.
Congrats to our Boys Basketball Team who clinched the BCSL Independence Division Championship last week! The boys went 2-1 on the week which started with a 53-34 win over Moorestown Friends on Monday. Richie Butler led the scoring with 14 points and Sam Adams added 13 points.
The boys then clinched the division with a 50-41 win over New Egypt on Wednesday. Azmir Taylor and Sam Adams each scored 14 points to lead the Panthers offense.
The boys finished off the week with a tough loss to Group 4 Pennsauken High School, 55-49. Azmir Taylor scored 15 in the loss. The boys are now 11-8 on the season and will host Cinnaminson on Wednesday in their next game.
This past Friday the Winter Track & Field Teams competed in the NJSIAA State Sectionals. The following athletes placed in the top 20 in South Jersey Group 1:
For the Girls:
- Madison Grimes placed 12th in the 55 meter dash running a personal best
- Maura Russell placed 14th in the 400 meter dash running a personal best
- Keronja Watson placed 8th in the 55 hurdles
- Sarah Agnew placed 11th in the high jump with a tie of her season’s best
- Maura Russell placed 12th in the high jump
- Zaria Welch placed 16th in the shot put
- Olivia Lynch 18th in the shot put
For the Boys:
- Xavier Oliver placed 18th in the 400
- Pat Broadbelt placed 8th in the 800 shattering his personal best by 4 seconds
- James Crean placed 17th in the 1600
- Mike Kozlowski placed 7th in the pole vault
- Joe Barben placed 10th in the shot put
- Doug Aird placed 16th in the shot put
The following Track & Field Athletes will be moving on to NJSIAA State Championships in 2 weeks:
- Alex Lopez vaulted a personal best finishing in 6th place and will move onto State Finals
- Colin Broadbelt finished in 4th place, ran a personal best in the 800 and will move on to State Finals
- Abdul Iyiola ran a personal best and finished 4th in the 55 meter hurdles and finished 3rd in the 400 meter dash and will move on to State Finals
The Girls Basketball Team had a 2-1 week, opening with a 39-32 victory at New Egypt on Monday. Cadence Anderson had 19 points to lead the offense. The girls then crushed Delran High School on Wednesday 43-23. Cadence Anderson exploded for 28 points to lead the Lady Panthers to the win. The girls finished the week with a tough 37-32 loss to Glassboro High School. Cadence Anderson scored 18 points and Kiley Hines grabbed 10 rebounds for the Panthers. The girls are now 14-4 on the season and will host Pennsauken High School for their next game.
The Girls Wrestling Team traveled to Timber Creek for a tournament on Sunday. Sam Domask finished in 2nd place in her bracket. Congrats to Sam!
The Boys Wrestling Team hosted Gloucester Catholic on Tuesday in our senior night match and destroyed the Rams, 78-3. Ben Still, Jaiden Doyle, Sy’keem Muse, Victor Martin, Patrick Daly and Stephen Hankey all won their matches on the mat.
The Panthers then hosted Oakcrest on Thursday and demolished them 60-18. Aidan Hines, Justin Lopez, Sy’keem Muse, Deakon Haines, Stephen Hankey and Trevor Young all won their matches on the mat. The Panthers are now 15-6 on the season and travel to Woodstown for the 1st Round of the NJSIAA Wrestling Team Tournament. Good Luck!

The Middle School Girls & Boys Basketball Teams schedule concluded on Monday with boys and girls games against Riverton. The boys lost a close one 30-27. Dorian Davis scored 8 points in the loss.
