Winter Sports Update featuring wrestling

-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports                             Good Day Everyone, I hope you all had a nice weekend!  Here is a look at how our athletes performed last week:

The Boys Basketball Team had a 2-1 week.  The boys opened the week with a 63-42 loss to Camden Academy Charter.  The boys rebounded to win their next two games.  On Thursday the boys defeated Pennsauken Tech, 48-34.  Sam Adams led the offense with 16 points and Da’Shon Edmonds added 15 points.  The boys made it two in a row with a 65-56 win at STEM Civics on Friday.  The Panthers had 4 players in double figures with Azmir Taylor’s 18 points leading the way.  Sam Adams had 15 points and Da’Shon Edmonds and Richie Butler both added 14 points for the winners.  The Panthers are now 9-6 on the season and will take on Moorestown Friends tonight in a BCSL Independence Division Game.

The Girls Basketball Team also went 2-1 on the week.  The girls opened the week with a 63-40 win over Moorestown Friends.  Cadence Anderson led all scorers with 23 points and 12 rebounds.  Jada Coefield-Elie scored 11 points and Anna Paszkiewicz contributed 10 points in the win.   (PalmyraSun covered this game, click here)
The Lady Panthers lost a tough one to Pemberton on Wednesday before rebounding to crush the Scotties of Bordentown on Friday Night, 48-24.  Cadence Anderson scored 19 and Amanda Gilmore added 10 points.  The girls are now 12-3 on the season and will travel to New Egypt today for their next game.  

The Winter Track & Field Teams traveled to Toms River on Monday and the boys and girls track team competed against some of the best athletes in South Jersey at the SJTCA meet #10.

  • Top-20 finishes were had by Maura Russell who placed 19th in the 400.  
  • Colin Broadbelt placed 10th in the 800.
  • Joe Barben placed 7th in Shot Put. 

On Tuesday the throwers traveled to Cherokee High School for a throwdown.  The girls throwing team for the 2nd week in a row dominated the Freshman competition at the Cherokee Throwdown.  Great job ladies!

  • Zaria Welch won the competition with her best throw of the year of 28'6".  
  • Olivia Lynch placed 4th
  • Phoenix Leaks placed 5th.

The Wrestling Team went 1-1 on the week.  The squad lost to a very good Burlington Township team on Tuesday but then thrashed Maple Shade on Thursday, 57-18.  Jaiden Doyle, Elliot Jackson, Pat Daly, Deakon Haines, Matt Dickinson, Blake Wood, Trevor Young, Ben Still and Aidan Hines all won their matches on the mat. 
The Panthers then competed in the Burlington County Open over the weekend.  The team had 4 medal winners at the tournament.  Patrick Daly, Stephen Hankey, Joe Garrison and Trevor Young all medaled in the tournament.  The Panthers are now 13-6 on the season and will host Gloucester Catholic tomorrow in their next match at 6PM in the PHS Gym.

=======================M I D D L E   S C H O O L========================

The Middle School Girls & Boys Basketball Teams took on Florence High School.  Our boys lost 54-30.  JJ Moran had 4 points, Dorrian Davis had 10 and Kwame Chisolm had 6.  The boys and girls middle school teams will wrap up their season TODAY against Riverton at Charles Street School.
