Winter Sports Update featuring girls throwing winners

-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports:                                Good Morning Everyone, We hope that you enjoyed the snow this weekend!  (We appreciate the valiant efforts of our dedicated Buildings & Grounds Team fighting the storms!) 
Here is a look at how our athletes performed in between the snowstorms last week with a shortened schedule:

The Winter Track & Field Teams boys & girls throwers competed against the state’s best throwers at the Cherokee Throwdown on Thursday. 

  • Joe Barben threw in the main event and had another excellent performance. 
  • Sean Edmonds took 18th in the JV event and Isaiah Colon placed 31st
  • Tommy Sacca threw a personal best. 
  • The girls team dominated the freshmen competition.  Zaria Welch threw a personal best and won 1st place.  Olivia Lynch placed 2nd, Phoenix Leaks placed 4th and Milana Sanders placed 6th in the state for group 1.

The Boys Basketball Team went 1-0 beating Maple Shade in both the JV and Varsity games.  The varsity won 68-50.  Junior Sam Adams had a massive game scoring 25 points while Azmir Taylor added 18.  The boys are now 7-5 and will host Camden Academy Charter today at 5:15pm. 

The Girls Basketball Team went 1-1 on the week.  The girls opened the week with a 57-14 win over Willingboro.  Cadence Anderson had 25 points to lead the Lady Panthers.  Angie Sauls added 9 for the winners.  The girls lost to a tough Maple Shade team on Thursday, 55-41.  Cadence Anderson had 20 points while Ava Sims added 8 points.  The girls are now 10-2 on the season and will travel to Moorestown Friends today for their next game.

The JV Girls Basketball Team defeated Maple Shade on Thursday, 37-7.  Clara Cannuli led all scorers with 12 points and Jillian Hines added 10 points.  Jada Coefield-Elie had 7 points, Emily Falicki had 2 points and La’Nya Muldrew-Bracero had 6 points. 

The Wrestling Team went 1-2 on the week.  The boys traveled to Rancocas Valley for a tri last Monday.  The boys lost to Rancocas Valley 68-12 but then defeated the Lancers of Holy Cross, 63-18.  Ben Still, Aidan Hines, Victor Martin, Joe Garrison, Deakon Haines, Stephen Hankey and Matthew Dickinson all were winners on the mat for the Panthers. 
The squad lost a competitive match against Bordentown on Wednesday, 40-25.  Trevor Young, Aidan Hines, Elliot Jackson, Patrick Daly and Joe Garrison all had wins on the mat for the Panthers.  The wrestling team is now 12-5 on season.  They will host Burlington Township tomorrow night at 6pm in a BCSL Patriot Division showdown.

The Middle School Girls & Boys Basketball Teams played competitive games against New Egypt Middle School on Wednesday.  The boys lost 26-23 with Kwame Chisolm scoring 9 points and JJ Moran scoring 5.
