Spring Sports Update

-and NOW from our SPORTS DESK - Athletic Director Mike Papenberg reports:                           Happy Monday Everyone, hope everyone had a nice weekend!  Here is a look at how our student-athletes performed last week.

On a rainy Saturday the Boys & Girls Track & Field Teams traveled to Pennsauken to dominate the competition at the BCSL Divisional Championships!  Both the Girls & Boys won the division meet in grand fashion, taking home the Independence Division Championships in both the Boys & Girls competitions. The following student-athletes won first place medals:

Girls events were:

  • Maura Russell in the 200 meter dash
  • Elizabeth McCarron in the 3200
  • Keronja Watson in the 100 hurdles
  • Maura Russell, Natalie Sherrill, La’Nya Muldrew-Bracero and Keronja Watson in the 4X400 relay
  • Sara Agnew in the high jump

Boys events were:

  • Kwinten Ives in the 100 meter dash, discus and shot put
  • Abdul Iyiola in the 400 meter dash and 400 hurdles
  • Colin Broadbelt in the 800 and 1600
  • Jimmy Crean in the 3200
  • John Latimore (The Ultimate Latimore) in the 110 hurdles and javelin
  • Joe Russell in the pole vault

The Boys & Girls Track & Field Teams will host Burlington City at home tomorrow at 345 in their next dual match. 

The Palmyra Boys Tennis Team had a successful week, going 2-1 against their opponents. The boys started the week defeating Cinnaminson (4-1). Richie Butler won his second singles match 6-0, 7-5.  Austin Forrester battled his way to win in three sets 2-6, 6-0, 7-6.  First doubles teammates Julian Carlino and Connor McCann continued their winning streak with a perfect match winning 6-0, 6-0. Second doubles teammates Owen Jacobs and Jaden Jennings won their match 7-5, 6-1. 
Later in the week, the boys took down conference rivals Delran, winning the match (5-0).  John Liebe won his first singles matchup 6-2, 6-2.  Richie Butler and Austin Forrester both won their singles matches 6-2, 6-1.  Connor McCann and Julian Carlino dominated their first doubles matchup winning 6-1, 6-1.  Second doubles teammates Owen Jacobs and Jaykob Ott won their matchup 6-4, 6-2.  
The boys finished the week with a tough loss to Northern Burlington (4-1).  The team is now 9-4 on the season.  The boys will participate in the BCSL Tournament on Monday at Veterans Park and will be playing in the first round of NJSIAA playoffs later in the week. 

The Softball Team had a tough week, going 0-3.  The girls opened the week with an 11-4 loss to Pennsauken High School.  Aubrey Wagner had 3 hits while Leannette Alvarado and Keyanna Watson had 2 hits for the girls.  The girls lost to Holy Cross 7-2 on Wednesday.  Sydney Lim, Emily Gerbe and Jasmine Martinez all had hits for the Panthers. 
The girls finished the week with an 11-1 loss to Riverside.  Eve Fencl had 2 hits to lead the offense for Palmyra.  The girls are now 6-13 on the season and will travel to Haddon Township for their 1st Round NJSIAA State Tournament Game on Tuesday at 4PM.

The Baseball Team had a 1-2 week.  The boys lost to Pemberton on Monday, 4-1.  Joe Elmes, Brayden Minnix, Chap-Sa Lim, Dean Maute and Jason Maniscalco all had hits for the Panthers.  They responded with a 14-4 win over BCIT Medford on Tuesday.  Joe Elmes had 3 hits and Chap-Sa Lim had 2 doubles and 4 runs batted in to lead the offense.  Anthony Morgenstern was the winning pitcher for the Panthers.  After losing to the defending Group 1 State Champions on Wednesday the Panthers ended the week with a record of 10-7.  They will host Dunellen High School today at 4PM in the 1st Round of the NJSIAA State Tournament.
